The longest route for P&O Ferries. Opened in 1993 and operated by the mv Pride of Bilbao ever since, the route has its own wildlife officer resident onboard throughout the year, who interacts with the passenders on deck 11 during the deck watches and also provides wildlife presentations in the ships cinema. The wildlife officer is provided by the 'Biscay Dolphin Research Programme'.
The mv Pride of Bilbao operates three night mini-cruises from the historic naval port of Portsmouth to the scenic port of Santurtzi (Port of Bilbao) in northern Spain. There is plenty to do onboard from relaxing in the lounges, taking a swim in the onboard pool or taking part in one of the Whale and Dolphin watches on deck.
The timetable has hardly altered since the beginning, with sailings now departing every three days from Portsmouth rather than every Tuesday and Saturday.
Sailings are typically 36 hours in length southbound and 28 hours in length northbound. The additional time southbound allows for a comfortable arrival in Spain. The ships operating on the route currently are:
