Dover to Calais
The busiest route of all for P&O Ferries. The P&O name has been associated with Dover since 1987 when they purchased the Townsend Thorsen company. Today they operate a fleet of five multi-purpose ferries and up to two dedicated freight vessels throughout the year.
In 2008 P&O annouched a €360m contract has been placed with the Finnish shipbuilder, Aker Yards for the two largest ferries ever to be constructed for the Dover to Calais service. An option on a further two vessels of the same design has been taken so more new ships could be seen in the coming years. The first of these ships however are not due to enter service until late 2010.
Sailings are typically 90 minutes in duration, which is more than enough time to grab a coffee or a meal and enjoy a breath of fresh air. The ships operating on the route currently are:
